Oddball Arena 2025 by Oddball

Score: 2 out of 5

Oddball Arena is a small one-room arena type map. It's basically the shape of a diamond with blunted edges. It is divided into small areas by symmetric walls with some stairs in between compartments.

The first thing I felt when I entered the map was that I was very small. This of course doesn't really matter as the style of the map is free and it does give the map a feeling of wide space. The other thing you would notice in the map is the extremely colourful lighting which is quite unlike the traditional lighting you would expect in a Kingpin map. Texturing fits the atmosphere with textures from Jedi Knight 2 which fits the colourful futuristic environment. Maybe one or two texture discrepancy (on barrels for instance). One thing that bugged me was the use of one particular texture which is 100K large only on the rims of one platforms. Overall the textures are much bigger than the actual map which doesn't pay of because you cannot experience their quality due to the KP engine limitations.

Various crates, platforms and barrels are dispersed around the map. They make for good hiding places as well as fun for jumping around. There is a robot type of figure which looks great from a distance but at a closer look you can notice the way the brushes aren't aligned.

Weapons and armour are abundant. They usually reside an top of some barrel or box. The gameflow should be good making for a fun deathmatch with many people although it would probably be also perfect for 3 people.

The r_speeds of this map are not very well. When you stand at an edge they reach 1000. There was an interesting thing with the source code that is supplied. It seems to not match the map completely and I achieved even higher r_speeds with it.

Though it is a fast and colourful map I think that it needs a lot more work on it.
